One day last week I glanced over and the pile of books beside my night table called out to me. I realized that I hadn’t read a book in quite a while.
I considered the reasons for this phenomenon: my addiction to my iPad as a constant source of news, the fact that my laptop is always open and readily available since the onset of working remotely, the new routines of evening entertainment, the overwhelming anxiety of the pandemic, and perhaps none of these.
In a very informal survey, I’ve discovered that others have also found it difficult to read books.
I picked up a book. Although it had a bookmark indicating where I had left off, I started from page one.

Until Covid, I’d always been in the middle of a book and carried a book with me just in case I found those few minutes.
I am grateful that the pile of books reached out to me.

Since I turn off all the electronics 45 minutes before I go to sleep, books are all I have. During the day I read non-fiction on the computer and articles of all kinds. But at night it's fiction. I also keep a stack of NYT Style sections for total fluff. I'm glad you made your way back to the books. It's a good thing.

Haven't read a book in quite some time. I am addicted to my electronics, tablet, laptop and phone. I can't seem to find a moment to read a book anymore.

I think you will certainly enjoy the transition back to reading books.
I am in two book clubs and finding the time to stay on track is a challenge. But I have enjoyed reading regularly.

Reading books is a lost art. "Gold in market place where few come to shop" (Remember the old Gotham Book Store on W. 47th Street? Our society is entirely overstimulated. Is it any wonder anxiety is off the charts along with teen suicide rates?

I read books but in my iPad. For book club, non fiction, for my classes.... I also read in the treadmill. It’s my incentive. Lol
