Ben's a lucky man

Last Thursday evening Gotham hosted a Zoom meeting with Ben's 91 years young Mom, Esther. I have heard her speak before and was looking foward to listening to her again.Esther a few years ago

A little background...Esther lived through the Holocaust because Mengele told her to go to the right and not to the left where her Mother and Brother were told to go. Had it not been for that fact and that a woman who stopped her from running to her Mom, Esther would not be here. Nor would her prolific and successful progeny.

Hearing her story once again brought me to tears. Everyone watching/listening was moved. Living through that nightmare, losing her family, going to America alone, finding love (twice), and having a family she still says "I've had a wonderful life." Truly a remarkable woman which Fred aptly named her A Gotham Treasure.

I wanted to know how she felt about what's going on now and the unprecendented events we are living through.  She offered it up without anyone asking saying "I don't understand...we don't learn...so much Antisemitism." She thought that what she lived through could never happen again.

I asked her if she had her life to live over again would she do anything differently and she brilliantly and succinctly answered “the war“!

She is truly to be emulated. A forgiveness GENIUS. My new favorite hashtag #BeLikeEsther

So powerful, beautiful and important. Paul and I were lucky enough to see her speak live at the Friars club years ago. She is remarkable. Inspirational.

I agree with what everyone said but my take-away is how these remarkable people build a new family from the people they chose to live their lives with.

I agree!
It was incredibly moving - a reminder that light, when we are open to seeing it, certainly does over come darkness.

Esther is the triumph of love, kindness and refusing to stand in anything but YES and perser vering. A Gotham Treasure indeed. Thanks for sharing this remarkable woman. I will never forget her.

Very amazing person who sees so much good through so much bad. She survived one of the worst atrocities in history and has a beautiful attitude towards life. What is not to love with Esther?

Was able to view several of her moving presentations at the Friars Club hosted by Gotham. Programs like those and Thursday reflect some of what we find special in Gotham.

Incredibly inspiring. A true Gotham treasure. When asked about current events today and her response was Never Again.... I pray that the lessons of the Holocaust remain front and forward and that it will never happen again.
