Banned By Facebook

Categories

I have made up a game which I play on Facebook.  I post interesting, but obscure, photographs of celebrities or sports figures and my Facebook friends guess as to identity.

If and when a person guesses correctly, I award a colorful Bingo! It’s participatory fun!

Last week I posted a mid 20th century photograph of Norman Rockwell painting Marilyn Monroe and was shocked when it was banned by Facebook, as being against their “community standards.”

The disputed picture is posted above. What could be more Norman Rockwell than Norman Rockwell himself?

I quickly appealed my ban and within about an hour it was reversed. Give Facebook credit, they did say “we are sorry we got it wrong.“

I’m sure there’s a lesson here, but it escapes me. Please help me make sense of it!

Oh my! I enjoy this game very much and am glad Facebook overturned it’s ruling for this picture. I wonder what it was about the picture that created the flag. Did they say?

I don't think you have anything to be worried about. The platform actually has an algorithm and for whatever reason that photo must have ticked some of the boxes. However, upon human review it was found to not go against any guidelines. Although, you could have a "hater" on your page reporting your post just to mess with you :)

Score one for the good guy! Your reputation as a premier negotiator is preserved.

On the other hand, isn’t it good that someone is watching? Even if they got it wrong, in this case, the first time.

The lesson is, Life is an adventure, you are not in control of anything but your own behavior. Have fun. I think you are...

In this day and age of potentially offending someone, it got filtered. Why, who knows. Think how many other items have been banned and no one faught it. I guess we can't have it both ways in these times. But you did get it corrected and I did see that original post.

looks like Gotham webmaster banned you as the picture did not appear in your blog

Perhaps a bit worse, but both, as well as YouTube, Amazon and Google censor, and we all ought to be outraged

I can't see the photo either. Come on Mitch, stop banning Fred. The only person who is allowed to censor Fred is Joanne.

Great tale of modern tech.
Can't believe you have to identify a time period and come up with mid 20th century.
Time really flies but Marilyn is still beautiful!!!!

It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy
