Alone Together

Buffalo Bills, Gotham, Mets

I often look back at what I drafted the previous year before I compose the instant blog.  Peaking at that 2020 commentary really focused on the contrast in how we live today, still under a Pandemic but hopefully vaccinated, or on the verge of receiving this protective measure.  Last year – joined by a few friends – I watched a playoff game albeit not featuring my still failing team (at least they rid it of the coach who ought never have been given the reins to that team wrongly situated in New Jersey – another blog one day maybe.).  This year – all by myself – I watched the conclusion of a game where a team from New York prevailed.

But, thanks to my networking group – Gotham (which obviously hosts this blog), I could instantly share in the glee of a friend who gladly reveals himself as a fan of those Buffalo Bills.  The features (tools) available to members of this “tribe” include listserves on various topics; one allows us to comment on sports.  It empowered me to congratulate Paul Napolitano and simultaneously share that message with everyone who belongs to that “group.”  In that moment, I became no longer ‘alone” but figuratively gathered among others, some of whom also chimed in.  Not something I envisioned when I joined some years back but still a nice benefit.

There was similar opportunity to share my glee after my beloved Mets engineered a “blockbuster” (not just my characterization) trade announced Thursday.

And I similarly get to share news articles and commentaries I find of interest through another listserve and, more importantly, receive comments and opines, that also help enable a sense of connection in a world where we must generally stay parked in our silos.

Who knew communication tools would serve perhaps an even more important role today?

I conclude with an apropros tune from the LP that gave title to this commentary.

Gotham strives to serve as both a Lifeline and Silver Lining and thank you for your many contributions to that effort!

I agree, technology has played a major part in helping us all stay connected through this unprecedented time. I can NOT imagine how they did it in 1918.

I thought of Paul yesterday knowing his fandom for the Bills!! And I agree, technology is such a huge aid in this, between my Gotham groups as well my weekly Zoom with my college roommates it's amazing how truly together we all are.
Daniel Schwartz

Technology is funny that way. It brings us together electronically but at the same time keeps us apart in real life.

Having something of note happen without being able to share it reminds me of the tree falling in the forest. I'm with you 100% Corey!
Scott Bloom

You peeked, Corey;-)

And thankfully for all of us, haven’t peaked yet

The opportunities to stay connected and enjoy together is a Gotham gift.
