Big Brother

Categories
Tech News

I'm a first born and I never had a big brother.  I suppose that's good and bad.  In any case, I have negotiated and survived the ups and downs of life fairly well.

Little did I know that for quite a while I have had a Big Brother tagging along and watching over me!

Since who knows when, I have noticed unsolicited messages pop up on my iPhone screen, eg, "9 minutes to (my address)" or "15 minutes to the West End Cafe", where I intended to go.

To say the least, it is most surprising and disconcerting.  Has it happened to You?  Can you explain what's happening?

The best that I can conclude is that I do have a Big Brother (pictured) and he's watching over me (for better or worse)!

I have the same thing happening and I find it very disconcerting. To be blunt they never make sense Now I have some
thing reminding me that somebody sent me an email that requires a response.

“Always eyes watching you and the voice enveloping you. Asleep or awake, indoors or out of doors, in the bath or bed—no escape. Nothing was your own except the few cubic centimeters in your skull.”

I fear we have unwittingly clicked “I accept” far too many times. Big tech sees all we do, controls us, owns us.

Big brother = big tech. Sometimes when Paul and I will be talking about some thing, miraculously when I pick up my phone it pops up on my social media
- The most random things! A new iron, skiing, a certain cut of American Eagle jeans that isn’t made anymore (!!)... anybody else ever experienced that?

Yes. Conversation followed by an advertisement on my phone. I've thought about getting an Amazon fire stick, but it comes with Alexis. I don't need / want someone else in my home.

I too have an Alexa and now I'm going to have pay more attention and see if I in fact have a "big brother" as well! I'm not particularly concerned about internet ads, I'm almost certain its marketing firms that are utilizing cookies to offer targeted marketing.

Alexa and Siri are listening. Ava and I have a convo and the next thing you know we are hit with ads on FB. I’ve learned my lesson. I never ever will buy anything on FB again. If you can think it; it’s on Amazon and shipping is free!

I stay away from “cookies” cept from bakery :)

I "tested" Alexa last week. I purposely said so she can hear me that I needed a new Pilates ring, which is something I had purchased before on Amazon. I've been waiting to see if an ad popped up on my social media for one. I'm happy to report that so far nothing has popped up. It's so weird what we find comforting in the current times.

My Book Group read it, but I failed to ploy thru it...

Effective next week, your chocolate ration will be “increased” from 3 bars to 2 - congratulations!

Yep! You got it Paul. The strange thing is it didn't come just from the government...
