Silver Linings

Categories

I believe it is more than the survival instinct or rationalization that causes me to seek out and see silver linings in this depressing time of horrible pandemic.

Do you see any silver linings?

I see many.  Some are small steps, some should have happened before and some are seismic shifts, but all are moves in a positive direction.

One obvious and vivid to me is that many (but not all) people have stopped dying their hair and are letting it grow out in all its beautiful glory!  An example is my friend Leda pictured.

To me, that’s a true silver lining!

A basic one (maybe too basic for some, if so sorry!),that i see: more people who didn't wash their hands much, if at all, are now washing - at least I hope so. It was one of the first lessons I was taught, but some may have missed the lesson. I cannot tell you how many guys, pr-Covid, didn't wash their hands after using the facilities. Washing is a key, and not just for Covid...so a simple silver lining.

So many silver linings. I look for them too - and they are there, large and small. One of the most recent is that our sweet daughter Allie used the quarantine to get certifications in behavioral tech, which resulted in getting a great new job working with kids with autism and their families as a behavior tech doing Applied Behavioral Analysis. Much love and thanks to Susan Russo, Vincent’s lovely wife, who not only served as a reference, but fostered Allie’s love and commitment to the special needs community back when she was in 10th grade. (this may actually be a gold lining. LOL)

More time with closest people, less distractions, more time to make art.

“Did you wash your hands?” Echoes in my ears!

The realization that in todays modern and high technological world, there really is little need for a centralized office (in my opinion). Sure it is nice to get out of the house and be with co-workers from time to time, but everyday, 5 days a week, not so much. For me in sales, I have found it not as necessary to even visit clients as much as before. Necessary at times, yes, but not for every meeting. Interesting to see how the future changes, if at all, after the pandemic is over.

Catching up on all those "Home Projects" I never had time for, and viewing over 50 years of "Personal Movies, Slides, Pictures & Yearbooks". The old "Kodak Moments".

Zoom calls that weren't considered pre-pandemic. Now my cousins and I virtually get together monthly ~ a silver lining for all of us across the nation.

Sorry, Fred. One silver lining is saving time and money by doing my own nails since the pandemic created concern but 'm not ready to let the hair go gray yet. And I told you why :)

One silver lining is that despite the challenges, I see that I made some pretty good decisions the past few years that are benefiting me and my family, and also afford me an opportunity to help others. I'm thinking mostly about the relationships that have been made stronger over these 7 months that add so much value to me and others in my world. As for the hair, I'm with you on that one Fred - for men and women!

Closing of my fave diner, finally re-opened this week to safe indoor and my basketball gym and gym’s pool which though open has a capacity issue were negatives though of the sensible kind. Basically driving less and enjoying it more when I am able to take longer drives. On zooms of all kinds seeing folks I like who were nothing opting to partake in live gatherings when they were the norm.

Less Distractions = greater focus. Ability to improve and work on my technical and human skills. Less time spent commuting. More time to spend with my love. Less rushing. More mini overnight driving vacations exploring NYS (In Rhinebeck now heading to Woodstock), less gas consumed, more home cooked meals (less salt) leading to loss of weight, more time to see doctors and ensure health is on track. More time to connect with clients, long lost friends. More time and money available to fix up our house, plan for the future, increase savings and most importantly...work on interpersonal relationships and build my team to not only survive, but to thrive during the pandemic as we have figured out where “the puck is going to be”.
