All Summer Long

Tomorrow often signals to many the end of the summer even though the solstice come a few weeks later. Sitting outside with Shelly before we dined on our deck, she noted how she how Monday would normally mean the end of a summer break many – students and most who work in city schools – enjoy; she also volunteered how that no longer applies to her (Perhaps a topic for a future blog.). With the impact of COVID putting a kibosh on many in-person business gatherings, and other meetings as well, the only real change my occur for me when the weather really turns.

When I remain able to work (in my) outside (office) and, with no real expectation to meet much in person, I experience no real sense of change. Gotham Networking, which hosts this blog on its website, already made clear its meetings will remain virtual. My civic meets this week via video. Last week I sent the newsletter for FDR Lodge Knights of Pythias lodge to our printer (Gotham member Scott Levine’s Minuteman Bellerose); I could not share any in-person meetings and both meetings this month get held via videoconference. My community board meeting in two weeks also continues in virtual mode. Ditto for the board of director meeting I chair for SNAP, a senior services agency and center (By the way, virtual classes remain very popular with our seniors.).

The interesting question remains: when will things no longer feel like summer. Not even thinking about an Indian Summer (but it is a great song!).

I close with a link to the song that gives this blog its title.

We have so many reasons to look ahead, but what lays ahead?

I have to anticipate "teacher traffic" on Tuesday on my way to the office. Haven't thought about that in months!!!

Interesting to say the leas; hard to share any memorable shows attended (in person) and pre pandemic expected to blog about a dozen or more. Biggest positive highlight not sure I am”free” to blog about but it was hinted above (I think).

At very least a vaccine and hopefully change in at least two very important institutions (for the better!).

When the trees turn and we can feast our eyes on the beauty of Autumn, summer ends. And then I always say "Spring is right around the corner."

Oct. 31is my official end of summer. Oct. is a transitional and hybrid month. So why not stretch it. Though we will forgive you if you move indoors by then. Don’t forget to try an outdoor heater.

Usually when cooler, it is jeans and my heavy POCO hoodie. I can add a down vest if need be.
I prefer not to close down until around Thanksgiving.

Traffic has gotten worse commuting east to Commack. Nights are getting cooler requiring less frequent use of the A/C. Days are noticeably shorter, dark by 7:15. I have felt the change for the last week now.
Tom Seaver was a Legend. So sad to lose him.

Never close down in the endless summer . How long it stays light out . That’s the key . This year is an aberration. All my earmarks are missing . Real October baseball ? First day of real school ? At least we have the wood stacked and put away . Chiefs vs. Texans this Thursday . Long roasting chicken on the grill tonight . Cold bottle of Heineken with dinner . It’s okay Corey . We got this .

One December years back we visited the Pearl Buck Museum in PA and while Shelly checked out the gift shop, I penned a column on a park bench outside.

Thx my friend. I enjoy Mets clobbering Phillies this afternoon and watching it outside.
