Rain

Two weeks ago on this "page" this blogger shared how he enjoyed sitting outide, even during a heavy rain (when otherwise protected from the elemented).  I mused since about a rain song playlist and compiled a list of songs I enjoy listening to (and have on vinyl -- if the music "aged" well.).  It almost appeared last week but another topic mused me more.  Today I share that list.  23 tunes on Apple Music and 25 on YouTube (because two selections only appear on John Fogerty's channel).

It includes five versions of my all-time fave Poco song, Paul Cotton's Bad Weather, two from Dylan, a great Byrds cover and Neil Young's original of See The Sky About To Rain, both rain songs by Creedence Clearwater Revival, and the extended live version of Clapton's Let It Rain (also included) by his short lived but great band, Derek & the Dominos.  The Beatles provide the title tune.

Do enjoy!

Paul Napolitano

Clapton’s comes to mind first, great song. But an all-time favorite for me is Rain by The Cult.

I thought we did this already? Anyway... Love Reign over Me - The Who - Quadrophenia,
Rainy Days and Mondays - The Carpenters, Cold Rain & Snow - The Grateful Dead, The Rain in Spain - My Fair Lady, music by Alan Lerner and lyrics by Fred Lowe. Here comes the rain again - The Eurythmics, Fool in The Rain - Led Zep, Purple Rain - Prince, A hard rains a-gonna fall - Bob Dylan, Come rain or shine by none other than Ray Charles.

Than you for your list. You did not look at the list I linked. I used the “Hard Rain” from Concert for BenglaDesh. You did cause me to recall Bob Weir’s Ace classic, Looks Like Rain. Love the Who selection but reign not rain. Rona raised the Carpenters tune 2 weeks ago but not all well-liked songs fit everyone’s taste.
Corey Bearak

If you clink any of the 3 lists of my original list, Raindrops is listed and linked. Thx for making sure.

Great choices for the next Rainy Day.
Meanwhile enjoying Beatles' Here Comes the Sun!

Love this list Steve. The Who's song most definitely is inspired by rain, with opening rain storm. Lyrics below say it all, Cool Cool Rain...
Love, Reign o'er Me
The Who
Only love
Can make it rain
The way the beach is kissed by the sea
Only love
Can make it rain
Like the sweat of lovers'
Laying in the fields
Love, reign o'er me
Love, reign o'er me, rain on me, rain on me
Only love
Can bring the rain
That makes you yearn to the sky
Only love
Can bring the rain
That falls like tears from on high
Love, reign o'er me, rain on me, rain on me
Love, reign o'er me, rain on me, rain on me
On the dry and dusty road
The nights we spend apart alone
I need to get back home to cool, cool rain
I can't sleep and I lay and I think
The night is hot and black as ink
Oh God, I need a drink of cool, cool rain
Love, reign o'er me, rain on me, on me, on me, oh
Love, reign o'er me, whoa, on me
Love

Love the rain theme. Besides The Who, referenced above under Steve's post, I do love the Doors, Riders on the Storm. Very rhythmic and totally puts me in the rain mood.
Corey Bearak

I did not include Riders because of narrow focus on rain; It was definitely considered. Bad Weather was my lone stretch and the list explained its includion.
Shelley Simpson

This should keep me busy through the rainy season. Yesterday we got caught in the rain in Central Park and for two miles enjoyed every drop and every puddle!
Corey Bearak

Made me smile.
Was in (blue) car during relatively brief momenys of yesterday’s storm
Rona Gura

Love the rain theme. Especially after our first tropical storm, Faye. It felt nice to sit in my home office working listening to the rain. I thought of you and your previous blog.

That’s right Daniel san! The Who’s Love Reign O’er Me is a double entendre for Love (raining) over me. It starts off with the sound of rain pounding and pouring on the sea. The rain is metaphor for a cleansing of life as it washes over and allows for powerful emotion to erase (the dry and dusty) road of life.

What a perfect parable for our time as the dry and dusty pandemic gives way to the hope and knowledge that this will one day all wash away and we will vanquish the fear and replace it with LOVE.

My next favorite in the same vein is the beginning of Riders of The storm when Morrison chants “into this night we’re born”.

And lest we forget Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams”. Memorable moment for me was about 15 years ago at Jones Beach when the rains came just as Stevie sang “Thunder only happens when it’s railning...Players only love you when theyre playing. Women they will come and they will go. When the rain washes you clean you will know...you will know.“ That memory is still etched in my mind.
Corey Bearak

I only did lyrics for my fave Poco song but you and the GC of GQ do make some points. I also realized when looking at another playlist I created that another song to consider is Traffic's Colored Rain which titles its own playlist -- https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/coloured-rain/pl.u-V2m9CEElYx7 -- on Apple Music and was also covered by Blood, Sweat and Tears.
