Freedom's just another word

Today we celebrate our Independence Day. Indepedence from tyranny, the right to freeLove the U.S. speech, the ability to believe in whatever religion we choose even if it's none at all. We are a pluralistic country and my wish, on this day, is that we can look out for each other, accept our differences without judgement, seek to understand what it truly means to be free, help those who have less than you, fight for equality, applaud truth, play fair...

I know these might be considered high ideals but isn't that what all of us should strive to do?

Maybe on this day we can think of freedom not as the right to do as we please...but as the opporutnity to do what is right.

We have great opportunity before us! Well done!

Freedom is so valuable and powerful. Sometimes it's hard to contain it in a peaceful way. My Hope's is that we don't abuse this priviledge to the point of losing it.

Agreed, we all need to strive for the high ideals you mention. And agreed, freedom isn't the right to do as we please, but it is up to our elected officials to make certain that we can live in freedom, freedom from the fear of rioters, and lawbreakers, and destroyers, who want to do what they please without regard to the rest of us. And why so much silence from some of our elected officials while law breakers deface and knock down statues and monuments. Those lawbreakers do not accept differences without judgment. My prayers are that they, also strive for the high ideals you mention! Thanks for the post and Happy Independence Day!!!

A great blog Mitch. Unfortunately, what is right has been subject to too much debate

We need elected officials who follow the law and make certain that others do also. They are supposed to protect us and our property but too many seem to hate America as much as the rioters and looters do.

Just another word for nothing left to lose ? I’ve always had a problem with that lyric. Penned by Kris Kristofferson . What the hell was he talking about ? I think about that lyric a lot . What the hell ? Who has nothing left to lose ? And that’s supposed to be freedom ? I still don’t get it . Dark connotation . If that’s freedom I don’t want any part of it . Perfect lyric for Joplin . Too dark for me .

To me it's the perfect opposite of what my blog was about. I agree with your confusion about the lyric...

Yes...elected officials who the follow the rule of law. Totally agree.
Vincent Petraro

Not just follow the law but Mayors and Governors are responsible for protecting the property and people in their jurisdictions and not allow punks to riot, destroy, deface, and kill.
