Boy are we angry...having been out and about (don't worry, mask and gloves are on) I cananger tell you that people are angry. Apparently a lot of pent-up tension.

 

The drivers on the road are excessively agressive which is saying a lot around here. Retailers are getting screamed at in a plant store ?!? They are in a store which has beautiful flora and fauna and they are angry about the establishment running out of basil...

 

Doctors call these rage attacks; sudden, out-of-control bursts of anger which can start without warning. They are usually out of proportion to what triggered the episode.

 

We can’t always control the situation we’re in or how it makes us feel, but we can control how we express our anger. And we can communicate our feelings without being verbally or physically abusive. Even if someone is pushing our buttons, we always have a choice about how to respond.

How timely! Just as I began reading your blog, I heard screaming from across the street, where a NYC bus was stopped. The person on the street was furious, apparently because he was not being allowed onto the bus without wearing a mask. He came around to the driver's side, screaming and banging on the driver's window. Finally, flailing his arms, he crossed the street and the driver was able to pull away. How often do bus drivers encounter this, I wonder. I know I was alarmed and glad it didn't escalate. Covid rage indeed. Whew!

The (current) lack of drivers on the road makes it easier to drive aggressively (and senselessly). Idiots tend to exist and since an overwhelming number of reasonable (less unreasonable?) folk venture out less often, the appearance and perhaps boldness to do act of idiotS magnifies.

I feel like there has been a breakdown in social norms and morés as the spewing of vitriol online and on-air has collided with fear and uncertainty and there is a certain group of people who feel entitled to behave in ways they never would have in the past. I'm with Corey in that the reckless and rude are emboldened by the situation and are more obvious.

A couple cacme home from shopping wearing masks. When they arrived home and took off their masks the husband realized he brought home the wrong wife. We have to be more caredful and attentive.

Rage has always existed. It is a human trait. But with more people out and about now (I had to drive to my office yesterday and was shocked at the cars on the road on the Southern State), we are bound to have more encounters, especially as most have been isolated for so long.

What is it folks ? We have been reduced to this mindless behavior ? I spent the morning writing letters of recommendation . I described one hot headed co-pilot as a even tempered joy to fly with . NOT ! and I even recommended him as a candidate to carry a gun while on duty ! Go figure . This guy once told the CEO of the company to go F himself . Good thing he wasn’t packing at the time . As a former hot head myself I knowwhereof I speak . Fred had to lay down the rules a few times . As I’ve said in the past I take my cues from the animals and from Alfred E. Neumann. “ What ? Me worry ?”
My dogs are staring into the woods. Alert . There’s something going on here but you don’t know what it is , Do ya Mr. Jones ?

I have seen sort of the opposite on Facebook. belong to a restaurant page on Facebook. The moderator, pre-Covid, had asked commenters to be mindful of their criticisms of the restaurants because people were brutal. I notice that, lately, the page has been going the other way. In an effort to support restaurants that are hurting people, like me, are purposely posting positive reviews to help drive business. Negative posts are rarer and they either being taken down or commenters are quick to support the restaurants. Kind of a nice change.
