The Visitor

The little notification beep on my phone tells me that there’s motion in my backyard. Sometimes it’s the Cardinal enjoying a snack.
Weeks ago, when this was just beginning, we put a little birdseed on the deck to see what would happen. After a few days the cardinals appeared. A sweet couple - bright red with a black face and soft brownish-red.
They seem unaware of what’s going on — except I’ve heard that the birds have reduced the volume of their chirping because they’re not competing with street noise. They visit several times a day and I watch as they stay for a while and then fly away to visit others.
On the one hand, a wonderful distraction. On the other, a little connection.

I've noticed birds more often through the quarantine. Lots of Blue Jays by me.

Isn't nature wonderful? Love to see the variety of birds around now. Yes plenty of Blue Jays and Robins. We have a yearly nest of doves in our front tree. Been there long before we moved to Lynbrook 15 years ago according to our neighbors..

This is a magical time of year as the birds start returning from the South. And from I am told, Cardinals are harbingers of good luck! Glad you are able to enjoy - the distraction and connection.

How lovely. We have also noticed an abundance of birds, and given the small decrease in traffic on Glen Cove Road, can actually hear them. It is a joy--just purchased a very large bag of birdseed for our feeders.

The birds may seem unaware but trust me . They know everything. They don’t miss a thing . They tune in and get comfortable. Curious and careful. They talk to me . I talk to them . Watching and singing . Waiting . Few predators to harm them . But enough . Fragile . Nature’s way of saving them . Are they listening when I talk to them ? They listen to everything . They are aware. And Oy can they fly . Great aviators . Magicians with wings . Turn on a dime. Awake at first light In bed By dusk. Co-existing , sharing . Singing . These birds are under my skin.
