Taking This Moment in Time

I remember when the thought came to me. It was mid-April and I was feeling sad. I was sad for the people we lost and who were sick. I was sad for the tremendous financial loss so many people were feeling. There were a lot of reasons to be sad.

I needed to turn myself around. I needed to think about what I had to be grateful for. I was grateful for mine and my family’s health. I was thankful that we have food on the table and a roof over our heads. But on that day, I just needed more. I needed something else to pull me out of my funk.

I thought about this unusual moment in time. I thought about the uniqueness of having two months to pause. While I hope we never need to do this again, I thought about how distinct this time is. I then decided to take advantage of this time and do something positive for myself. So, perhaps, when we eventually return to our busy lives, I would have achieved something new for myself.

Given that there was now so many workout routines available free online, I decided to try out different new ones and see whether I could incorporate something new into my life. I first started with yoga, which I thought I would love. I was shocked when I did not enjoy it. I then moved onto Pilates. After my unsuccessful foray into yoga, I expected the same unsuccessful result with Pilates. I was happily surprised how much I enjoyed Pilates, a workout method I had never previously tried.

Since then I have incorporated Pilates into my life. I am hopeful that, after we renter our hectic lives, I continue to take the time to do this for myself.

Have you tried anything new during this time?

Been reading more on line articles in areas I don't usually get into. A lot more how to and fix it videos too. Nothing for my health unfortunately.

Indeed. This entire week is devoted to trying that New, New. I promise to give myself a NEW experience everyday this week. This morning, I tried a SHRED class from my on demand gym classes. The class was hard! It gave me something to look forward to and my dog sat in complete confusion. He even tried to console me during the hard parts.
Keep it up, girl! Love it.

I think I have a friend or two who might like to hang with Fred but the only real change has been a focus on how things need to change going forward. I've enjoyed conversations in this regard. I suspect I sneak in more yard work and related activities because of my preference for activities that make sense to me (not something to explain here.)

LOVE this COVID stream-of-consciousness. Kudos on Pilates which I have been doing for 40 + years. When my favorite juice bar closed, I discovered Juice Generation (the Starbucks of juicing and they even deliver). When Starbucks closed, I discovered local eateries and a bodega that make surprisingly delicious decaf soy lattes. When my gym closed, I discovered our apt. building stairs. When all the local restaurants closed, I discovered Zabars, P.J. Bernstein’s, Citarella & The Greek Kitchen (me cook?). Since our housekeeper can’t gain entry - thank you CDC - I am about to re-discover house cleaning. Oh, and my husband just asked me to cut his hair. It’s an adventure!

Ugh!!! I hate the house cleaning part. I'm about to discover coloring my own hair. Fingers crossed.

Love it! Time seems to have slowed down...so I’m trying to slow down with it and be more mindful about the little things. :)

You are always a positive thinker. Appreciated by all around you.

I hope we take that with us when we return to regular life.
