What to do?

It's been quite a week. Businesses had to be 50% staffed, then 75% then 100%. States are locking down and people are still hoarding toilet paper..

I thought I might start a list of what you can do while sheltering in place.

• Visit musuems online

• Dust off that old instrument in your basement and give it a go

• Put together a puzzle...that one in the back of your closet you got as a gift years ago :)

• Start a journal (Fred's been doing it everday for a long time now)

• Teach yourself a foreign language...you have the time

• Watch a really long movie

• Meditate

• Make your own hand sanitizer

• Write thank-you notes to people who went out of their way for you

• Get on a Zoom call with your friends

• Join a Gotham Zoom meeting too..it's fun

• Draw a self portrait by using a mirror

• Finally fix that broken whatever in the house

• Work in the yard

• Have your own wine tasting

• Write a book with your family...Everyone picks a character and writes a chapter about their adventures then reads it aloud

• Consider donating money to food banks to help families struggling to get meals

A lot of great suggestions. Get out and take a walk or bike ride too...

You could binge watch old shows. I just started Days if Our Lives. I finished the first year. Only fifty
more to go

Wonderful ideas!! I thought I would Marie Kondo my apartment. Instead, I'm going to Cold Spring for the duration... My son and his wife are adamant about that.
Norman, I've never seen Days of Our Lives. Thank you.
My immediate challenge is learning ZOOM for online group classes, and combining Synchronous/Asynchronous teaching. Be well, be safe everyone!! Take no risks...says the woman who did her first 5 SCUBA dives alone with the sole instruction being, "When it gets hard to breathe, come up."

Just read some info on a great activity: Making facemasks at home to give away to hospitals etc.

Further digging led me to an easy Pattern:

And a detailed analysis of what materials to use when making facemasks:

I couldn't sew my way into a paper bag, so I am hoping there are some crafty Gothamites out there. I know 3 quilters (sisters) who are hard at work on this. They are donating to their nurse-nieces to distribute. Of course, giving them to the homeless is also a good idea.

Getting the house organized and free of clutter! Reaching out to friends and family; colleagues and elderly family and elderly family friends. "Reaching out to touch the old fashioned way" by way of phone call or text helps make a difference...

Zooming with friends with whom we normally meet up with in restaurants. Have that wine or coffee together virtually. Dine together.

I think the hardest parts for me are not going out with friends, no Basketball (playing it that is), no pool at the gym, no live shows, no Opening Day, no live professional sports in person and on the telly, and for some no March Madness.

Time to spend with family. Something we seem not to do much anymore with technology taking our attention away.

My daughter is doing a puzzle gifting with her college friends, sort of like a secret santa. They each have a name and ordered, for that person, a jigsaw puzzle online that the person might like.
