I’m curious. Where are you working right now?


Our office decided to go remote starting this week. Even though I have done a fair amount of work from home over the years, this is definitely a different experience. We are for all intents and purposes a remote office.


Technology is critical. We are relying on it like never before. I can’t say I don’t worry about technology being overloaded.


I feel very lucky that our practice could move seamlessly to remote work. Not every practice or business can function remotely. Think retail, for example. What can a business do to sustain itself where “work from home” just doesn’t work?


Gotham friends, how are you trying to work through this storm? Let’s try and learn from each other.

Biggest difference is that my daughter is working remote as well and needs the space I often use before I go down to my office. We are getting close to the moment when I "open" my "outside office," which will make that less a concern. As most may know I enjoy a home office set up exactly as I like it. Where my daughter is using my dining room table I have a surge protector and additional charging stations for my iPad and iPhone (which move outside when I open the outside office). For me biggest difference is missing the frequent in person breakfasts and coffee with colleagues which guidelines appear to rule out for the time being.
An interesting aside after doing a teleconference is how the background in one office will appear in the screen show.

We are a suite of four attorneys with separate practices. We agreed only people in the office can be attorneys and support staff-if necessary. We are going in relatively staggered, i.e. I'm home today but in tomorrow and another attorney is in the office today. We are keeping our distances, no more lunches together in the conference room, no entering the other's office, talking to one another from door of the office etc. Trying to stay healthy but, also, keep financially afloat.

For years I've been resistant to going so 'tech' over hands-on in person. This has been happening with others in Staffing ;now I must adapt quickly. Learning to zoom conference, will use that for interviews as well. Exploring other remote access and IT tools to assist with Bookkeeping, etc...my office is spacious enough for us to stay separate, but I just rode up the elevator with a guy three feet from me; made me nervous and questioning my choices. Kudos on your seamless transition Nancy; hope I can do the same.
