Fists, Elbows and Toes

I need a favor Gotham. We are in very challenging times changing the way we greet other people. If you know me, I am most likely to engage in some form of touch to say hello. It might be a handshake, or admittedly, if I know you better a hug.

With recommendations from the CDC in today’s coronavirus environment, those greetings are no longer acceptable. Instead, we greet each other by fist bumps, elbow touch or perhaps a creative toe-to-toe greeting.

I get it, really I do, and support whatever we can each do to lessen the risk of spreading the virus. But I’m having trouble. It’s an auto response for me. Heading to an elbow touch just doesn’t come naturally, at least not yet.

Hence, I need your help. Please stop me and correct my greeting gaffe if you see it happening. I’m sure I will make the necessary changes eventually, but until then, thanks for helping me along.

You wrote a great legal memorandum covering all aspects and implications of the current situation. Well done!

It's hard. A former client went to hug me yesterday. Right before touching we pulled back and elbow bumped.

I recently attended a meeting and everyone simply waived. Joyful and childlike -- a visual "Hi There" -- certainly got the message across with the necessary acknowledgement. Perhaps a better alternative.

Last night was a great example of the different methods of greeting at the LI Gotham meet up for drinks. I did elbows, fists and yes, sorry to say, traditional hand shakes. Sometimes you just go with the flow and what feels right.

With all of the cancellations, it seems like the only option we will have to is pick up the phone or dial into a zoom call. In the meantime, if I see you in person ad you try to hug me, I will do my best to recoil but no promises. Stay well!

Waves sounds lovely. Also carrying my sanitizing spray. Thus far it has added to the conversation when seeing people

I think we should bow!

My new personal favorite, using the Vulcan greeting :

I hear you. And, like Rona, it’s harder for me when people (mostly students) want a hug. I try to do a smile and an elbow bump.

It's enough to exchange a greeting. Like Marilyn, I am equipped with hand sanitizer in my "bag" and car.
