The View

We were on a very nice rooftop in New York City. It's at Ink48, a hotel at 48th Street and 11th Avenue. We were told that it has been rated as the sixth best rooftop in New York (and the lines to get in attest to that).

It truly offers a great view. And it's also a good place to observe people.
I watched as people stepped onto the rooftop and took in the panorama. Almost inevitably and immediately, the smart phones came out to take pictures…. pictures of the skylines and pictures of friends with the City in the background.

What I didn't see were a lot of people “looking”. What became apparent to me is that people really don't “look” when they take pictures. It seems to be either look, observe and absorb, or take the picture. There is such an urgency to capture the moment that they don’t seem to experience it.
I don't take a lot of pictures.

Joanne criticizes me for that, saying she has the picture in her mind.

I enjoy experiencing the view. One of the best experiences I continue to have involves passing by things as a passenger that I only regularly pass by as "wheelman" and really absorbing the view, including things never noticed. Really nice how you take in, absorb and share. Think about a 2d career reviewing travel.
