Willie Nelson

We saw Willie Nelson, an American icon, Monday night on a warm breezy night in an open southern field.  It was truly a vintage Americana experience with people sitting on blankets and lawn chairs along with us surrounded by friends in the cheap seats.  There was sweet marijuana in the air and cold beer in my hand.  It really doesn’t get any better than that.
Willie

Willie is a soon to be 87 year old self made Texas original and his two sons Lukas (the more talented)  and Micah are in the band to support him.

Yes Willie no longer smokes marijuana and no he hasn’t had a hair cut.   He was costumed in a 10 gallon hat under which  dripped long braids as he brandished a stark white Peace Sign on his black tee shirt.

He’s still our Willie of fond memories, groaning his unique style of Outlaw music as he willed himself to the finish line and his 3000+ person audience just loved it! Nostalgia reigned!

His guitar’s name is Trigger (named after Roy Rogers horse) and his playing is still outstanding (it is a Martin N-20 nylon string acoustic) as it over dubbed his increasingly gallant croaking.

I came away happy to have witnessed what might be one of the final performances of a great/beloved showman.

He did just enough to make one want to let our babies grow up to be cowboys!

Them that don't know him won't like him.
And them that do sometimes won't know how to take him.
He ain't wrong he's just different.
But his pride won't let him do things to make you think he's right.

Willie is an American icon. A great voice and story teller like Johnny Cash. That’s why everyone needs to go to Nashville to visit TGOO, Ryman Auditorium, CMHOF and Johnny Cash Museum. Country music is the foundation of our culture and the song track of our lives.

What an enchanting evening! Willie’s gift is leaving footprints in our hearts with an empathy that is bigger than life. Thanks for sharing. ❤️

Your night with Willie says at all. Your review of the night makes everyone jealous.
Outdoor Music and warm weather is perfection. Hope Willie comes to Jones Beach this summer!

Lukas opened for the Stones in Jersey this summer and won the crowd over.

"All the mistakes I made, I'm glad I made them," "All the wrong turns I took, I had to take them. Can't look back with regret, cause the view is never clear. That's what it took to get here

I saw him opening once for John Fogerty in 2006 at Jones Beach and at the 2015 John Lennon Imagine show. I really appreciate his sons' playing having seen them as "Promise of the Real" backing Neil Young at Jones Beach in 2015. First time I saw him was opening in '78 for the New Riders and the Dead.
