My New Year's Resolution
During this time of the year a lot of people talk about or write about their resolutions. Anyone who knows me knows that every year I make the same resolution, I’m going to watch my weight. This year I gave a lot of thought to my resolution and what propensities of mine I really wanted to work on changing. I came up with two.
First, I resolved to try to watch my language, that being, to control my cursing. That lasted until I was back in my office on January 2, 2020. By 11:00 a.m. I had cursed three times.
I have been much more successful at my second resolution. I resolved to spend less time on my cell phone. I have tried to put the cell phone away in a cabinet when I get home at night and take it out again in the morning. Additionally, before a meal, I also have been putting my cell phone away, only to be taken out after the meal is concluded.
I feel so much less stress and anxiety while at home or eating if I’m not looking at my cell phone. And, so far, I have found that I haven’t missed anything that could not have waited to the next day.
Can you put your cell phone away?

My iPhone (and iPad) serve purposes beyond email, messaging and calls. So perhaps the use applies more to this discussion.
I read newspapers and magazines online. Can I carve out an exemption there?
Depending where I am, I use either device as a TV (or radio); that allows me not to take meals at my desk.
Either mobile device allows work options away from my desk.
And of course, I can stream music or listen to a podcast using either mobile device.
I blogged about how I enjoy more freedom via my mobile devices.
