It's not often I find myself speechless yet last Tuesday night I did.

Receiving the Red Bandana award was an unbelievable surprise for me as well as all of the deserving award recipients as Fred wrote about in his blog yesterday. My wife, Pam, also suprised me that night showing up for the presentation. Tears welled up as I felt awash with gratitude and shock just standing there with the award in my hand. I know I said something, but can't remember what it was :)

I am deeply humbled. The award, to me, represents the ultimate sacrifice that Welles Remy Crowther made on 9/11 and is given to individuals who have, in spirit, done the same. It's hard for me to compare my "deeds" with the life of this brave young man. Pam spent the entire drive back to Sea Cliff trying to convince me I deserved the award.

Receiving this award was totally unexpected as was Fred performing the unthinkable and actually keeping a secret.

It gave me utmost psychic compensation! Well done!

Victoria told me how you volunteered for many years through BOCES, helping groups of disabled adults. Then you continued doing it after BOCES discontinued the program. The world needs more people like you Mitch. You are very deserving of this prestigious award.

A beautiful post, Mitch! You know Fred believes in what he does, in what Gotham does and stands for. Congratulations to you on being the recipient of the Red Bandana Award!
And thank you, Nancy and Fred, for the creation of this remarkable organization!
How many saw my TYPO? At least one person dear to my heart did. Ugh. I've fixed it!

Well deserved. Don't sell yourself short. You have done and continue to do many great things. Keep it up and enjoy this award.

You deserve and merit the recognition. I recall one of your early efforts to procure a van

Congratulations Mitch! I'm new to Gotham but I know you are a great and deserving guy. Bravo!

You can't argue with Pam or any of the rest of us who appreciate you! It's nice to be humble, but get over it and bask in the gratitude we have for all you do.

Well earned! Without knowing the particulars, I somehow knew you were a a person of uncommon wisdom AND exceptional if not quiet humanity, preferring anonymity. You may recall a long time ago I called you Gotham’s rabbi. The world and Gotham are lucky to have you.

Thank you Kelly...not sure about the Rabbi part though :-)

It was such a highlight Mitch to see your reaction. So very well deserved.
