Thanksgiving Eve

The turkey was finished, leftovers put away, kitchen cleaned, floor mopped, and garbage was at the curb. It was a long, fun, day spent with family and good friends.

During our clean up, my daughter asked if I would consider doing some midnight shopping with her at our local outlet. My son was going with his friends and the idea tickled her too.

So off we went for a midnight shopping spree at Tanger. It was cold and crowded – and oh so much fun. The deals were great and the company even better. There was just a fun buzz in the air as we went from store to store. Some had lines out their doors waiting to get in. That was too much for me.

Admittedly, I really don’t like the idea of making employees work on Thanksgiving. But that said, all the employees we met during the course of the evening were friendly, welcoming and seemed genuinely taken with the excitement around them.

With full candor, I was pretty tired and could have easily went straight to hug my pillow rather than driving out to go shopping. But instead we made memories.

I can see Marisa if she was not at her current gig dragging her mom out but they both worked hard preparing the table and making dishes (even what we catered required re-heating). I did pick up a new 32" external monitor that I am viewing and commenting on this blog the following day.

I have a special pillow just for hugging!

Calli and Sydney go to the mall every Black Friday at 5:00 a.m. I love that they have that tradition together.

I can't get myself to go out shopping on Thanksgiving Day or night. I think stores should give their employees off. I remember my many retail years and the begging by upper management to see who can come in and work. It was voluntarily forced. If you didn't come in, you had to work the entire weekend which was worse. So guess what most of us did. I can never condone it. Now Black Friday is a different animal altogether, but you won't see me up at 5am either. If it is that good, buy it on line and return it if not perfect. Family Memories are nice but not shopping on Thanksgiving for me or my wife who also has a past retail background.

I am glad you had a good time, memories with family are always special--that said I don't like malls or large stories under the best conditions----crowded I think I would find them impossible.
