Patriotism

Recently I have been reading a book about Leadership by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Doris explains how she has a deep desire to understand what makes a good leader and I thought it timely for the Fourth of July. She starts with Abraham Lincoln and visits his life, struggles and rise to a leadership role. WOW! I’m crushing on him big time. Next in the line up is Theodore Roosevelt....I maintain my crush on old Abe, but impressed with his unique opportunities to shine. Each leader prepared our country for specific growth, sometimes reflective of the talents bestowed. What makes a good leader? I ask you.

The reason that the declaration of independence was signed on July 4 was because they wanted to do it on a holiday.

A great leader has infinite vision and patience. And is willing to see beyond themselves to the greater good.

Fantastic book. Worth revisiting. Just came back from UVA orientation with Dana. Have to say Thomas Jefferson. Extraordinary vision and mind. Multi-disciplinary, visionary, principled and outlined the ideals of freedom, justice and equality which has allowed our country to not only survive the foibles of human beings, but to flourish. Happy Fourth of July!
