Gotham held it’s annual Bob Formica Golf Outing this past Monday and I must say that besides the beautiful verdant rain enriched course the golf cart, not the golf, was the best part.

Every year Paul Napolitano and spouse Victoria Drogin are in my foursome (we missed Hard Hitting Don Bernstein this year) and, lucky me, I'm paired with Victoria in a golf cart.  Better still, she drives!

Over the years she and I have experienced numerous golf cart adventures.  Some we can report and others stay in the cart. This year we missed riding over the sprinklers as the course had been rain soaked.

Once our cart is in motion with the attendant cooling breeze, bucolic surroundings and Victoria’s presence...words can not really describe it!

The right golf cart partner is essential. Victoria is the best! I’m sure you laughed A LOT and cheered each other on. Not to mention the good talks that come from spending time on the course!

I never use a cart . And when I golf I’m not pleasant . Diane won’t golf with me . Too many obscenities . Plus I throw my clubs . I golf in hiking boots and short shorts . Plus I cheat . I tend to slice my drives and when I do it’s not a pretty sight . I steal balls from the water holes. I try to let everyone see my #MAGA hat with the hopes someone will say something . I spoil for the controversy . The Golf Clap is obnoxious . My goal is to out drive the competition to the green and 8 putt to the hole while throwing my putter across the green . Otherwise I’m fun to spend time with on the course . Victoria might influence my behavior at first but after 5 minutes I’d revert to my Bill Murray act .

Honestly, sharing a cart with you, Fred, has become one of favorite (golf or otherwise) rituals. We laugh all day, share pictures on our phones, catch up on the families and kids, and talk about life. I treasure our conversations - what happens in the golf cart stays in the golf cart! And the day is only a little about the golf. It’s more about sharing the beauty of the green grass and blue skies, ancient trees and ruins, the sound of the birds (sometimes being hit out of trees!) and the very, very best company. Thank you.
