What’s in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet.

-William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Recently, I attended a networking gig in Newtown, PA with my friend Laura Queen. A small group of new acquaintances sat around a pub table and performed the art of getting to know one another. Cleverly, one of the gentlemen said “I know a quick way to get to know someone, would you like to know my secret?” I was willing to play the game and sheepishly, the others at the table agreed. He went on about how a name spoken into existence brings life and meaning. He puffed out his chest like a proud peacock and stated his name. Alan….my name is Alan. Spoken proudly and stately, he proceeded to give his name meaning. I may have played this game before, but it was a healthy reminder to pay attention to the obvious.

My name is Carly. It’s of English origin and it means… little and strong.

Fitting.

What does your name mean?

Fred Klein

Mine is Fred, not Frederick and I do not think it is great and sometimes I reverse it and go by Derf!

My name is Elizabeth, though I prefer Liz. It's of English and Hebrew origin and means...God is my oath. My Mom wanted to name me Desiree. There's a story behind why that didn't happen which I'm happy to tell over a glass of wine some time. :-)
Tessa Marquis

My first name - spelled backwards - is ASSET. My Chinese name is MA-TSA pronounced Matzah (Matzo). Long (hilarious) stories for both.
Victoria Drogin

Victoria was a Greek and Roman goddess of Victory. Not really a driving core value of mine, but I’ll take it. :) I think my parents named me and my sister, Elizabeth, after English queens for some reason. LOL
Rona Gura

Great blog. I have never thought about it so I looked it up after reading your blog. Rona is Hebrew for my joy.
Joshua Zinder

Joshua I fought the battle of Jericho (not long Island) led the Jewish people after Moses… and name has origins in leadership and savior....I did get a kick out of this urban dictionary definition https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Joshua
Carly Bentley

I’d love to hear the story. Mine might have been Brandy. That would’ve been something
