Worthwhile Advice

Gothamite Carol Schiro Greenwald visited Gotham’s Long Island Dinner Group on Tuesday evening and presented eye-opening insight, and vibrant discussion, of Referral Etiquette and the interplay of the Connector, the Referrer, and the Referred.
The takeaway is straightforward. (And if it requires clarification, Carol will provide.)
“Please”, “Thank you”, and “Would you” are the words to be used.
However, the most salient for me is Carol's encouragement to use the word “because” as in “I’d like to introduce you because....” or “I’m sorry that I can’t help you because...” or “I thought you’d be interested in the attached because....”
It may take a little more effort, but Carol assures us that the little effort will yield results.
Thanks again to Carol.

Thanks Ben for sharing my advice. I also think it is important, as Fred said, to continually keep each other in the loop concerning the progress of a referral: when you connect, if you do or don't work together and when it ends. It is also important for the person seeking the referral to be clear, specific an detailed concerning what they are looking for and why. Again, Ben, thanks for sharing my ideas.

Carol gets to point and makes things plain; advise to follow; makes it easier to help and be helped.
