Social Media Stalking

Categories
Lifestyle

I have, reluctantly, realized that I’m a social media stalker. I initially joined Facebook with the sole intention of using it as a tool to see what my children were doing while away at college. As my personal use of Facebook increased, their personal use decreased significantly.

My children barely now, if ever, use Facebook. They do, however, post frequently on Snapchat and once a day on Instagram (apparently, it is not cool to post more than one post a day on Instagram). So I have created Instagram and Snapchat accounts for myself primarily so that I can view their pictures. And I have learned my lesson. I rarely post anything of my own on Instagram and Snapchat, using both accounts predominantly to view my children’s postings.

I realized how prevelant  my addiction to viewing their posts was this past weekend. My three daughters left on Thursday evening for the oldest one’s bachelorette party in New Orleans. From the moment their flight landed in Louisiana, I have been checking in on Snapchat constantly, viewing pictures of the food they’re eating, drinks they’re drinking and the general mayhem they have been involved in. I probably could have done without looking at the videos of them playing with a phallic looking balloon that a man gave them on Bourbon Street but I couldn’t help myself. I know I am hooked.

Do you use Snapchat or Instagram?

Use neither but may need IG since my wife and niece posts some things there; mainly involving our grandniece. I've also seen IG used to post document linked from twitter (I'd just post such to my website but many folks lack the ease of access to their own website that I enjoy.

I post photos on Instagram (sometimes more than once a day)

Love instagram, can't quite get Snapchat, but do have an account.
Still love FB, though I know the "kids" don't use it much anymore.

No, I don't. Any Voyage into that world would require two new learning curves which I'm not so sure my 70-plus brain could tolerate. And, on the other hand I have never been much of a social media or otherwise stalker. I tend to believe that what I don't know is probably a good thing.

I joined FB partly to keep tabs on my kids, but mainly to connect with myriad family throughout the world. Love seeing their photos & family updates. But I post little personal stuff these days as my family absolutely hates it, and my kids ( 3 adults) rarely do. Have already been told NO photos of my future granddaughter on any Social Media! I'm contemplating Snap since looks like fun, have IG account but rarely use it.

I totally get it, although to be honest, I am not a snapchat or Instagram indulger. Facebook on the other hand . . .

I use IG for business and, occasionally, when we travel. Most of my family and friends are still using FB. Jerry's kids (all over 40) don't use social media at all. They prefer group texts. It can get crazy when the texts start. LOL

Kids don’t use it much but FB is a nice way to stay in touch with family and friends I’d otherwise drift a bit from. Lovely for b-days! Insta is fun too.

Thank goodness for FB for birthdays. the birthday reminder has saved me quite a few times. LOL
