It Took A Gotham Village to Get Me to Brazil

It’s that time of the year again, Gotham invoices are available for payment. And, invariably, this is the time when I hear members asking, “What has Gotham done for me?”  Here’s my answer to that question, this is what Gotham has done for me.

As most of you  who read my blog know, I love to travel but I am a very fearful flyer. Bill Solz, Gotham therapist extraordinaire, has generously spent  time talking to me and helping me to understand the genesis of the fear. While I have not yet taken a havening session with him to further alleviate my fear, I have personally witnessed the results of havening and they are extraordinary. I have seen Bill change people’s lives with this technique.

Recently, a few days before I was to take a ten hour flight to Brazil, I published a blog about my fear of flying.  Retired commercial airline pilot and Gotham member, Neil Hollander, someone whom I have never met or spoken to,  called me and spent an exorbitant time on the phone with me discussing the basis of my fear and how to address it. He then generously sent me follow-up videos further addressing the issues we discussed.

The flight down to Brazil was pretty rocky but I stayed calm throughout the flight thinking about all Neil had taught me. My family was amazed at my change in attitude. Through most of the return flight I was similarly calm. During the landing at JFK, which was particularly bumpy,  I felt the anxiety creeping in. So I began to meditate. I learned meditation though Gotham blogger, Caycee Crown. I reached out to Caycee to learn about meditation a few years ago when I had to go through an extensive medical procedure while awake. Caycee generously spoke to me and sent me materials that allowed me to learn to meditate, which got me through my medical procedure and the recent bumpy landing at JFK.

This is just a few of the things that Gotham has done for me this year. What has Gotham done for you?

To start with, it made me a better networker. Just saying. And it must start somewhere.

I'm heartened by our team work. Great blog (and thanks)!
Daniel Schwartz

You never know where it will come from, but it eventually does come. That to me is the power of Gotham.
Paul Napolitano

My son was diagnosed with a somewhat rare and potentially serious kidney abnormality. When I asked on Fredslist for a recommendation on a nephrologist, Annamarie Bondi Stoddard got me an appointment with the best one in the Northeast!

Thank you for your kind words.
Gotham continually shows me who I am, through engagement with other humans, not always easy or comfortable, and that is the most valuable gift of all.

I didn't know that story. If you ever want to blog about it, I would be happy to give you the platform.

So sorry about the Bills. Was thinking about you yesterday.

After my first full year of Gotham, I am a networking convert! Gotham introduced me to networking and to so many giving and warm people. I've gotten business from Gotham members, but hope I've helped others as well. Here's to another happy and healthy year of Gotham!

Your blog and all of these comments give great context to who we are as an organization. Thanks for saying all of this and looking forward to a great 2018 networking with all of you.

It's always better to give than receive . That mantra has been my philosophy since my first child was born 48 years ago . It just feels better . I come by way of Gotham for me in a most unusual way . And as you have indulged my crazy idiosyncrasies and helped in my ongoing fight to fully recover from the personal trauma of 3 years ago It was a pleasure to help Rona get through her phobia and on the road to understanding . Knowledge is power . Bravo Rona ! You know where to find me !
