Ice, Crushed or Cubed?

Categories

Recently, I wrote about a controversy in my home, toilet seats up or down. And I was grateful for all the responses. Apparently, there is another debate brewing in my home and it concerns ice, crushed or cubes?

My refrigerator makes both crushed ice and ice cubes. I have learned that I seem to have an aversion to crushed ice. My daughter loves to make herself a large cup of crushed ice and will leave the refrigerator on that setting when she’s finished. If I do not look at the refrigerator before I use it, I will invariably get a glass of crushed ice. I am not a fan of crushed ice as, to me, it melts too quickly and waters down my beverage. So, when I unexpectedly get a glass of crushed ice, I generally throw it in the sink and start again.

I have tried to make a  rule in my house that, after you’re done with the ice, you have to put the refrigerator setting on ice cubes. But the fans of crushed ice have rallied against me.  Do you have an ice preference, crushed or cubed?

Do not have that option but it makes small cubes. I make ice tea and coffee stronger to account for ice.

Crushed ice nice for making iced drinks like coffee or tea to cool it down faster, but you do need to account for strength before hand. Generally I do prefer cubes.

Actually noone in my family uses ice for the most part so we are good, however on the rare occasion that ice is used no one remembers to put the setting back to plain water and, like you, I get a glassful of ice rather than water---so whose fault, mine for not looking before simply pushing on the mechanism to get water, or theirs for not re-setting the mechanism? Hmmm. And to answer your question, on the rare occasion we use ice we all chose cubes.

There is a new trend in the restaurants and bars that when you order a drink on the rocks they give you one ice cube practically the size of the glass. I prefer the ordinary sized cubes and I have to remember to order regular cubes when i order a drink.

Make coffee or tea and immediately refrigerate = no need for cubes at all!

Cubed with me drinks! Crushed if I want to add it to my water or Gatorade bottle..
