Art can be defined as the producing of works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. We have all experienced a performance that we know is beautiful but for some reason we do not feel its emotional power.
It’s a time of year when the recipes flow and the cooking is nonstop. Honestly, I really love it.
My family and I went to Jamaica in February for a much needed vacation. We planned this vacation over a year ago. Given the COVID concerns at the time we planned the trip, and our knowledge when we were planning that there would be a grandchild travelling with us, keeping the family COVID safe was a huge consideration. And, so, we wound up renting a private home for all of us to stay in, which also had access to a private beach club.
Baseball opened for real last week and my team remains undefeated after its first three games.
A feat not achieved in an entire decade.
That year, my team only won another 71 games.
Hopefully things will prove markedly different this year.
Amongst all the nuttiness that has been going on, this was news to me. Although not entirely surprising, it did give me pause.
Did you ever invite someone to dinner and your guest proceeds to order the most expensive steak entree on the menu?
It happened to me recently and after getting over my initial penurious shock I was actually and genuinely impressed with the guest’s self possessed chutzpah!

Jon Batiste, the composer, bandleader, singer, piano player, and dancer, was nominated for 11 Grammy Awards. He won five, including Album of the Year. His performance on the telecast featured soulful singing, innovative playing, and out of this world dancing. He brings incredible positive energy to all he does.
