The fantastic PBS series, “American Masters”, is taking a deep dive into the life and career of The Beach Boys genius songwriter, Brian Wilson. “The Long Promised Road” traces the legendary performer’s journey on a drive through Los Angeles with his friend and Rolling Stone editor Jason Fine.
As a teenager, Wilson created a sound that raced to the top of the charts. California Girls, Surfin’ USA, God Only Knows, Help Me Rhonda, Good Vibrations are just a few of the hits that still sound great more than 50 years later.
I have had occasion recently to hang out with some young adults – who I first knew as young children. You know, those kids your kids grew up with, played baseball, dance competitions, trick or treating. You get it.
My husband and I were very excited about this past weekend. It was one of those rare weekend days. We had no plans, no work obligations, no children coming over, no getting together with friends, etc. It was just us. We were very excited to just relax by our pool on Sunday and, basically, do nothing.
Last night we drove out of state to see Richie Furay play in an intimate setting where he live streamed a show. It was originally billed as an acoustic show but as the stage setup below shows, it featured an eight-piece band.

We were nearby and had an hour before dinner at a restaurant we haven’t been to in over two years. So, we decided to take a walk to the hotel on West 48th Street in Hell’s Kitchen. We have a long history with the hotel and had stayed there many times over the years.
