A Winter Thought

As I brushed the snow off the car the other morning, I thought of family and friends who have left New York for warmer parts.
I am fond of kidding my Mother -- who spends the winter in Florida -- that the happiness of New Yorkers in Florida is inversely related to the weather: the poorer the weather in New York, the happier they are. (As any mother would, she denies any happiness based upon my discomfort.)
It makes sense. You travel to get away from the cold. So why wouldn't you take a certain amount of pleasure in the fact that your plan worked?
To those who, like me, are bundled up for the next few days (at least), stay warm....and make plans to get away so you too can watch the weather back home on TV and smile.

Admittedly, I'm not a fan of the cold; but being out and about is necessary. So I throw away my love of fashion, bundle up and go. Some day, maybe, I'll think about snow-birding; for now, however, it's just too much fun in NYC!

Couldn't agree more, Liz! Although, a certain Tribal Chieftain does spend time in Key West and that is my most tempting location, going to be 72 today.

I did not like standing out in the cold some 3/ 3.5 hours Monday afternoon but I can bear passing through it. I have "secret" ways to bundle up even with a suit on so the weather does not necessarily cause me to worry about my "fashion." The only thing I have about weather is an inability to leave my coat, etc in my car before dashing inside. I am not a fan of lines (even for coat-check). I note my mom invariably asks about the weather and I invariably respond "fine" -- no matter what.

After kvetching about the cold for many years, I seem to have passed into a phase where if I bundle up, I can live with it. Never thought this would happen. So glad it did. I hate being a kvetch. I could never live in Florida-hot and boring. Except if Fred was my neighbor in Key West, I guess.
