They're Watching

You may recall from an earlier blog that in my family, we frequently offer "lists" to each other for desired gifts.  This year, my daughter and I talked about the fact she wanted a satin cap for sleeping. (You curly girls out there will understand this in an instant.)

Last night she sent me a text with the name of a brand she liked.  Later in the evening, I took a Facebook scroll -- and lo and behold, my feed was full of satin caps for sleeping.  One advertisement was even for the brand she suggested.

And so I say here, publicly and loudly -- Facebook, get out of my phone.

It is just too weird.

Big Brother is surely watching (and listening)!

They're listening too. Last week Phil was talking to me about a brand of pots and pans he wants to buy. I never looked the brand up. That night it showed up as an Instagram ad on my phone and haas been showing up once a day since.

Sorry to say-Privacy has been a myth for years.

I suggest using the duck duck go browser which doesn't track nor sell your search information. Works like a charm

About a month ago, Victoria and I had a similar experience so we decided to do a test. We both held our phones out (no texts, no emails, and SIRI wasn’t “on”) and I said something about snowboards and then she said something about snowboards and then I said “Burton snowboards are really good, we should think about getting one of those”. Sure enough, I started getting snowboard advertisements from Burton via email. Still getting them, two or three times a week. This is ridiculous.

As long as “they” don’t go the next step and buy the things and ship them. Unless of course “they” pay for it out of their virtual wallet.
