Say what?

I have been a member of a study group for several years. Recently,  we decided to engage in a year-long project focused on how we listen and hear others.

As part of the “homework” we each keep a journal - every day writing down something we learned from someone else. I’ve taking that a step further and will make what I learn the subject of my Facebook Live which I have been posting regularly for over 6 years.

What I am discovering is that focusing on learning something new from everyone I talk to has put my already “active listening” into overdrive. I am calling this Active Listening+

What about you? Would you call yourself an “active listener?”

Looking at the other person's expressions helps too

I try to always look around - at people I work with, at those on the street, at people who work in stores and restaurants - and make enough friendly eye contact to learn who they are. Then a word or two will elicit a word or two, or just a smile. That is always a learning experience for me and a way to tell others that they are acknowledged and appreciated in this crazy world.

Yes I was taught early by great mentors that youvhave 2 ears and 1 nouth and should be listening twice as much as you speak. I also learned by speaking you are only repeating what you know and cannot learn. The beauty of learning is it never stops regardless of age! Do it Fred!

I would like to think I am a good listener. Active listener is an interesting term.
