Dependence

I had called Verizon Thursday afternoon to complain about their coverage. It has gotten worse over the past 6 months. Areas which usually showed full bars now barely have two and sometimes the coverage is nonexistent.

The woman who took my call told me I had to update the SIM card in my iPhone and gave me explicit instructions which I followed...after we disconnect, turn off your phone, remove the SIM card, turn your phone back on and snap the QR code she was going to sending me through email.

However, the email never came and my phone could not make or receive calls or texts. Subsequent calls to tech support ended up in a wildly frustrating experience. I had a dinner to attend so I left the house with a nonworking cell phone.

The next day while driving to and from appointments I needed to make a call. I thought where can I stop to make a phone call but realized there is no place to do that. No phone booths anywhere! Maybe stop at a Starbucks and ask someone to use their cell phone?

Our dependence on cell phones is complete.

Oy! A few years ago I walked out of the apartment to meet someone and forgot my phone. The address of the place I was going was on my phone. It was too late to go back. As you discovered, there are no payphone and even if there were, I didn't have her number. It too is in my phone. I asked a few people along the way where the coffee shop was and they didn't speak English. TOURISTAS! Finally I made it to my destination, she was there. We had a good laugh. I hope THAT never happens again!

I usually find a verizon store old school face to face visit is best a few times per year.

In London there are phone booths all over the place. However with all the Covid and other germs around who would want to use them?

Verizon did not do what they said they would. The more I advise and interfere with business then more I expect above average service. I guess it's service like that which Mitch experienced with Verizon that sets the bench mark for above average.

We are totally dependant on our cell phones. As for Verizon, I left them years ago due to their ever increasing rates. My service is the same if not better and have no regrets. My rates are locked in forever and that includes all taxes and fees.

I got locked out of my house with no cell phone last week. I had walked out of the house and closed the garage but had forgotten my pocketbook. Thank goodness a person walking their dog came by and let me use his cell. I was shocked that my husband answered the call since it was from an unknown number. Luckily, my husband answered and was able to open the garage using his cell phone.
