I had never given it much thought -- until recently.
The thought is that I may become a victim of gun violence. Just "being at the wrong place at the wrong time" has taken on a new perspective and a new concern.
Not that it wasn’t there in the past but it has moved to a new place in my thoughts. And, perhaps, my behavior and routines are impacted.
As I’ve shared my thoughts with others, I find that I am not alone.

It always a possibility. Back when I was a foot messenger in NYC when I was about 16, I got held up with a gun. It happened so fast. I luckily didn't get hurt but the mental after effects lasted quite some time. Always be aware of your surroundings.

The realization that anyone could be carrying a gun occurs spontaneously in the strangest places… yesterday at the car wash when a large man in camouflage clothing emerged from a huge Ram truck right behind me! Not a comfortable feeling.

Reminds me of my banking days. I was an investment rep in more than one branch that got held up at gun point. A light would start flashing under my desk to alert of a hold-up which was a signal to stay in your place. But honestly, how many people do we pass in public venues like airports, subways, grocery stores, the post office, drug stores, on the street who are carrying a gun?
