Saying Goodbye

I know this is going to sound a little crazy – but I attended the nicest funeral yesterday.

My cousin’s mom passed a few days ago at the age of 91.  She lived a full life, filled with energy and absolute devotion to her husband and family.   And then there were the stories, hilarious stories, right until the day she died.

The funeral service was full of warmth, tears and, in my family song, mixed with so many of those hilarious stories.  Family came from near and (very) far to honor their matriarch and show each other that she could never be forgotten.  The air was filled with sorrow for sure, but so much love.  And we laughed a lot.

It really was such a nice funeral – if you know what I mean.

My grandmother used to say, "They have it all wrong, We should cry at weddings and laugh at funerals". Thanks for sharing your wonderful goodbye.

Not sure how I missed this blog. But it is very true in that celebrating ones life should be joyful and why not bring humor in to help ease the pain.
