Showers

Showers require water, lots of water and water is our most taken for granted Natural Resource.

So much so, that when I take a shower I turn off the faucet after I’m watered down and before I soap up. Then I turn it on again to rinse.

I know a long hot shower is a wonderful, sensual luxury, but think of all that precious water down the drain!

It takes some getting used to, but once you adapt it works just fine and in the end I’m as clean as any other :)

Water is indeed our most precious commodity. People who are so concerned about oil and fossil fuel should reconsider their priorities. Have you considered taking a bath …. :0)

It's interesting how little the water crisis is talked about or reported on. And it is a crisis. Thanks for raising awareness and for doing your part,

Water is life! There are ways to trap and filter water that humankind is not taking advantage of.

I take two showers a day. None more than a few minutes. I do sometimes turn off the water between soaping up and rinsing, depending on the weather. The key is less time (unlike my wife and son who can stand there for 15-20 minutes) and use less heat which is better for your skin and saves even more in resources than the water. Most shower heads let out less than 1.5 gallons a minute (some less). So a three minute shower is about 5 gallons. A bath can easily use 20 or more gallons so much more wasteful.

Yesterday a water main break caused our neighborhood to be without it for about 10 hours. It gave me an appreciation of how I take such a resource for granted, a resource that the lack of would kill me in about 3 days. Though I have whined about the increasing cost of water I will continue to complain about a lot of things but never water rates again.

As Judy posted, water is indeed precious regardless of its current availability for us. I see a consciousness that we are part of sometime larger, that we have a role, perhaps an interconnected responsibility, and a desire to maintain for our children and their children, and their children …

I take a shower once a month whether i need it or not.

In California, during the previous droughts, we had signs everywhere that read "Save Water! Shower with a Friend." - Weird and excellent advice.
Nonetheless, I recommend conscientious attention to all water use: washing cars, hosing down sidewalks, letting garden hoses over-run, using two plates when one will do, changing forks between courses, and, of course, drinking water instead of gin.

My friend Bingo Jo Celi asked me to post the following: Thank you for being so ecologically responsible. Remember the 60’s saying, Save water Shower with a friend.”

Don’t feel guilty. You’re in the vast majority
