The WORLD CUP is HUGE!

It’s the biggest sporting event in the world.  More people watch and follow the World Cup Tournament than any other sporting activity.  Thirty two countries qualified for this year’s event. The World Cup is almost a hundred years old. It is held every four years and the 1930 initial Cup was won by Uruguay.

This year the World Cup is being held in Qatar.  A controversial site because of the country’s extremely rigid stance on LGBTQ rights.  Despite the protests, the fans came and the ratings are huge.  If they play the games, the crowds will follow.

The United States qualified for the first time since 2014.  As I write, the United States is eligible to qualify for the “sweet” sixteen knock out round.  A victory on Tuesday against Iran will guarantee their opportunity to dream to be a champion for the first time.

If they do not succeed, the young American team will play in the 2026 World Cup which will be held in North America. The United States, Canada, and Mexico will host the next World Cup and all 3 are guaranteed a spot since they are the host nations and receive automatic invitations.

Are you watching and following the World Cup coverage? The finals will be held on December 18!  The ratings will be huge!

As much as I enjoy many sports, soccer is just not one of them. I will route for Team USA, but likely will not watch any of it. Not a fan of tennis or golf either for that matter

Soccer is a wonderful sport for all ages - my kids played (one of them through university) and I played as an adult. I don't follow it closely but did catch part of the win yesterday.
