Routines

I’m a slave to Routine!

For example, see last week’s Friday With Fred blog Cafe’ Con Leche :)

Am I OCD?  Who’s to say?  One person’s poison is another person’s medicine :)

I was once very lazy and came to the realization that I needed a reformation.  In the process of reforming myself I developed a daily morning through night routine which serves me well in my Forever Young quest.

Does a routine resonate for you?

Yes, having a routine helps with daily structure and isn’t as draining on the mind on body.

I have a morning routine and an evening routine and there are some non-negotiables in my day. I find purposeful routines different from ruts that are void of purpose or function. While I do many of the same things every day, my days are always different and leave plenty of room for surprises. And your routines look both purposeful and fun.

This is interesting! I agree with Shelley and Ben that routines should be purposeful. They are how we take care of ourselves and set ourselves up to succeed. And as Ray suggests, having them helps us avoid decision fatigue. I know my days are better when I follow my morning routine and I feel very stressed if I am forced to abandon my routines (for example while traveling.)

I have a basic structure- but I’m also very “go with flow”. If something comes up I’m always up for an adventure. I will never say no to a spontaneous offer. My bags are packed - my passport is valid. I’m ready …..

My routine always involves between two and three cups of coffee in the morning, then see what the day takes me. Sometimes I'd like it to be more structured for sure, but at the same time that's not why I became an entrepreneur.

I believe in routines as well, and having primarily a morning routine of meditation and stretching, and evening of recollection of the +s and -s of my day. Lately I have allowed disturbances to it, and feel internally negative effects of doing so... for which I am grateful to keep me on my desired practices.

dear Methuselah Aspirant...I am not content without meditation, reflection or spiritual inquiry. I'm also not productive or happy without routine. Neither am I energized without a hefty amount of creative diversion and discovery. Be it making new friends. traveling to seven continents and 27 countries
kayaking. Or throwing frisbees. The key is following one's own sense of truth and fun ...and having a a heap of good fortune.

"Routine" comes from the word "Route", meaning the path you follow.
You can always decide to alter your path, or simply veer off course -- for pleasure or to learn something new.
