Lawn Speeding

Now this is a record worth mentioning especially since I cut the lawn at my house. A British man broke a Guinness World Record when he built a riding lawn mower that reaches a speed of 143.19 mph.

Tony Edwards, a mechanical engineer from St. Martins, Shropshire, England, said he powered the lawnmower with a 1300cc unit from a Suzuki motorcycle. Edwards said Guinness also stipulated that the lawn mower had to be able to actually cut grass. "I had to send videos to Guinness to prove that it was a lawnmower," he said.

Edwards said he believes the lawnmower can go faster, but it becomes more dangerous because the front wheels leave the ground, making steering especially difficult.

Tony said: "I am really chuffed. It was two years' work and a lot of effort. I suppose I'll have to find something else to do now."

How about speeding up a hedge trimmer Tony?

The 1960s Fiat 500s front wheels also lifted at a much lower speed and with a 500 cc 2-cylinder engine.

Reminds me of the Straight story, man rode his 1966 Deere lawnmower 240 miles to visit his sick brother. They had taken his license away…

I'd love to see a pic of what the lawn looks like when it's done.
