The Bright Side!

Categories

Last Friday night we had a Boys Night Out reunion.  It was the first time a disparate group of my friends congregated in about 2 years and, of course, the 9 guys in attendance were thrilled to be together (in person)!

One of the guys, David Rubin, asked the Right On question as to how the Pandemic has affected our lives and there were many different answers. Thankfully, none of them were downright negative.

I chose, as I have throughout, to see the bright sight, saying the Pandemic caused me to stop commuting, allowed me to retire gracefully from softball (which I miss so much) and afforded me more time with Joanne.

And you?

I was able to enjoy a full year and a half at the beach -.watching the cycles of the sun and the moon. Really being aware of the tides and feeling much closer to nature. Made a lot of art, read many books and enjoyed lots of international episodic TV. Main achievement..,,,. My husband remains unmurdered- ha ha ha

The bright side of the pandemic brought us a new baby and our family bond is so much stronger from being together.

How we move through the world is always a choice. Like you, I see the big picture and am aware of the myriad problems, but choose to focus on solutions and possibilities. On the bright side of the pandemic has been watching people discover their resilience.

The bright side is that it jolted us out of the routines that had consumed our lives. The outcome is still evolving.

Things related to it might have accelerated my wife's retirement and much good resulted from that. I dnjoyed travelin' less to some meetings but overall expanded the network" of people i interact with.

While acknowledging that many lost so much (family members, parents) and many came close, Paul and I were so blessed. Kids were ok even thought far away, and we missed them terribly, we both were able to keep working albeit remotely (remember life before zoom?) And like Judy, it was a time of reconnection with nature, art, being outside, natural light. reading, watching great tv, and being together. A giant reset. A big long “snow day”. In many ways it was wonderful. With all that said, doesn’t it seem long ago? Ready to hug and connect. :)

Likely helped push a major move in my life. Definitely allowed me to realize that I can survive working away from the office and in many cases, away from my clients interestingly enough.

Our physical vitality certainly impacts our outlook. And thank you as always for your support!

Like Victoria said, we must first strongly acknowledge all the pain and suffering by others much, much less fortunate than us. That said, it was probably one of the best years of my life. Less work, more time with my favorite person (Victoria), and a generally more “back to basics” kind of year. It was a “practice retirement” for me.

Transitional. Necessity is the mother of invention!

It re-energized me in many ways. I got to spend more time with my daughter who is studying from home for P.A. school and with my wife, who only returned to commuting back into NYC last July. I also found that I was less distracted in home than in my office, didn't waste time or energy commuting to and from meetings and appointments and developed mad skills for doing ZOOM meetings which became much more efficient and economical plus provided a medium for me to create scalability in my practice and enhanced client services. I did however miss LIVE meetings and now only choose to do so with clients I like to break bread with. I do also recognize that I don't need the on-site collaboration than many newbies crave and I feel blessed that I had 30 years to build a network of resources that will sustain me for as long as I decide to engage, persuade and guide, open-minded people that recognize the value of having an advisor and confidante on their team.

Pandemic changed everything and highlighted everything that was important. Appreciation of healthy, family, friends, home, and community. Sadness around the country and world was hard to see. Hopefully, science and good choices will make next year better.
