What Was Old Is New Again

A longtime friend, Melanie, called me last week to tell me that she had been re-watching episodes of “Ally McBeal” on Amazon Prime. Melanie and I met when our children were very young, as single mothers, living in the same gated community. Melanie and I, and our children, quickly became close friends.

Back then, “Ally McBeal” was important to Melanie and me. We would let our children play in one room and she and I would escape to another to watch. It gave us a one-hour escape from the pressures of single parenting and allowed us be adults for that sacred hour. Music was also an important element to the show, which we also loved. It was performed by Vonda Shepard and, of course, at the time we both had her CDs.

I have now started re-watching “Ally McBeal” also. Melanie is watching it with her grown children, and I have encouraged my daughters to watch, as many of the themes still are relevant today. And I have even found, and listen to, the Vonda Shepard channel on Pandora.

“Ally McBeal” and Vonda Shepard both bring me a comforting sense of nostalgia. It amazes me that, through the technology of streaming services and radio services I can rediscover some of the fun of my younger days. Have you rediscovered something old, that can be new again?

I have found films that I did not see on TV that I saw in theaters in my early years and was happy to experience again.

I enjoy Me TV and catch Columbo episodes as many other "classic" TV shows from my childhood.

I've watched all of the Star Wars films from beginning to end. That was a lot of fun and something I wouldn't do without television.

I loved General Hospital!!! Although, i doubt that the story line of Laura falling in love with her rapist, Luke would even be allowed on screen today.
