Vaccine Frenzy

Has anyone else noticed the increasing appointment frenzy? And has anyone else noticed how important it is to understand how the system works?

The current instructions are to ignore “No Appointments Available” on the NYS “Am I Eligible “ website. Just keep hitting refresh in as quick and furious a motion as you can muster – and then quickly grab whatever appointment comes up. Of course, you have to be lucky enough to grab a time along with that date, otherwise appointment success is elusive.

Twitter feeds and new websites are popping up to aggregate available appointments and let the public know when new appointments have populated the various sites. Quick! Head to your computer!

Where do we all learn how to navigate the system? Join your local COVID Vaccine Facebook page, they say. Great resources, links and more. Susan Zinder even put so much of this together in a tutorial that she offered to share with Gotham members on fredslist just yesterday. Early on, Corey Bearak shared information about vaccines at retail pharmacies that resulted in my mom’s vaccinations.

Has anyone else noticed people stepping up to help others in so many ways? I have been struck by strangers helping strangers get appointments. That help is all over Facebook. I saw one woman give some advice today about which sites had openings, and offer to sit on the website and refresh for others. I have to say, it warms me. Neighbors helping neighbors.

And last, has anyone else noticed that vaccine availability seems to be getting just a little better?

Let’s keep moving forward!

At the end of the day sometimes there is left over vaccine...

I have noticed the communal effort which started back when we had the Gotham Covid updates and then Corey continued reaching out with helpful links. And now Susan has stepped in. And it is not limited to Gotham which is wonderful. As for the frenzy, I don't engage in frenzy but am heartened by the sense of urgency people have because that means we are making progress.
