Four Seasons Lodge

The drive from Long Island was a long one. Route 17 to Wurtsboro and then Route 209 to Ellenville. A few County roads later and we found our way to Four Seasons Lodge.

Every summer there was at least one visit to my parents at the Four Seasons Lodge. When we arrived, my father was at the ready for our tennis match.

It was their bungalow colony in the Catskills. Their summer retreat.
It was a special place. It was founded by survivors of the Holocaust. To my mind, a reflection of the rebuilding of their lives.

After my father died and my mother met Sidney, they would spend their summers there. If you didn’t speak Polish, you were at a distinct disadvantage and I empathized with Sidney - although I think he developed an understanding of what was being said around him.

The residents of Four Seasons Lodge shared their memories - their good times and bad - their lives. They danced, laughed and cried.

They are captured in a wonderful film - Four Seasons Lodge - and we have the rare opportunity to share the movie with each other and my Mother, Esther. (She’s in the movie and will talk about her life, the Four Seasons Lodge, and  may even talk about the umbrella. )

Watch the movie and join us on Zoom on Thursday, January 28 at 5 p.m. See the Gotham calendar for all the details.

I used to go up that way to my best friends mothers Bungalow colony in Spring Glen. Know the area well. My HS and college years had many trips that way. I look forward to watching the film.

I enjoyed the movie ... so many layers when it comes to what it means to survive and go on to build a life and create community. I'm looking forward to hearing from your Mom and hearing the what others enjoyed most.

Very moving! Especially valuable for me, being a child of Holocaust survivors. It was also good to see my friend Irina Fogelson, with whom we sang for services in the Catskills!
