Surprise!!

This weekend was a special birthday for my husband. He turned 60 on Saturday. Exactly a year ago, I conceived a plan for the perfect surprise party for this weekend. Covid changed all of that and, instead, I planned small surprises throughout the weekend for him.

I was excited to give my husband a surprise party. I have had one surprise party during my life, my bridal shower when I married my first husband (Nancy was there). I genuinely enjoyed the surprise and wanted to give the same experience to my husband.

His response, so far this weekend, has been that he is really enjoying the smaller surprises as they keep popping up around him. He seems to, actually, prefer the smaller surprises to the surprise party I had planned.

Have you ever had a surprise party? Did you enjoy it? Were you surprised?

Mostly have planned some good ones. My only surprise was my bachelor party, not that it was unexpected but did not know when. And Shelly brought me there. And then the next morning I found my car was not home but across the street from the first venue.

I had one on my 50th. My wife put it together with help from friends and even got my then manager involved. He kept me busy at the office for an "important meeting" because my wife needed more time to prepare at home. I was so frustrated as I thought I was late for what I thought was a quiet dinner out with reservations at some local restaurant, but when I got home, bam! It was definitely unexpected. She even had everyone park around the block, including my manager who came by minutes after me so I wouldn't recognize the cars.

I have, my children surprised me on my last pre-covid birthday. It was perfect, they invited a handful of very special friends ---despite my insistence I didn't want a party it was a very special day.

Happy Birthday to your Hubby! I never had a surprise party and I never planned one. The only time "surprise" and "party" happened at the same time for me was last year at the Holiday Party and it was a doozy!
