I Wonder Why

One of my partners was in the office last week. I have to admit I was jealous. Seeing her on Zoom sitting at her desk made me want to be sitting in my office right next door. We have decided to reopen slowly and so I know that I will not have the experience of sitting next door for a little while – but still.

She indulged me and toured around with her phone, showing us all of the new partitions and safety items. Then, because I asked her to, she walked right into my office for me. I have not been there since the middle of March. It feels like an eternity.

I was taken with the overflow of paper and files.  I admit to having piles of paper around me when I work and multiple redwelds around my desk. But here is why I was taken with that photo – my “new” office at home does not look that way at all. In this remote environment, I have become fastidious about cleaning and clearing my workspace and filing every paper.

A new me? I’m not sure – but I did find the study in contrast interesting.

Joanne is not allowing my piles of papers on the dining room table!

Wait till you have to bring all the paperwork you have built up in your home back to the office! I think we have some movers in Gotham :)

I'm actually the opposite. My desk at the office is much better organized.

To beat Corey to the punch, I Wonder Why was a great song by Dion and the Belmonts!

To me, this reflects your ability to set boundaries. You never made your home a workplace. It is possible to work from home but you never really (although it might have felt like it) lived in the office.

I have a ton of NEW piles. Very organized, but the dining room table which Paul and I share, looks like a checkerboard. (My side is neater! ;))

My office is always neat for zoom calls because all the mess is out of sight. Otherwise every evening is tidy up time to begin the next day organized. Then the next morning I feel more in control.

Fascinating perspective Shelley. When my kids are not home, I use one of their bedrooms as my office. I think I was not as neat in those circumstances in a room where a door could be closed.

Yes! I completely understand. For me, its my "to do" list. I have a running document that carries over my projects/calls etc. I have to update that list every night -- and Sunday nights for the whole week.

I always seem to accumulate piles of files and papers regardless of where I work. I do try to straighten up each evening.
