For The Women Out There

It’s been about six weeks now.

About a week ago, I noticed a trend among my female friends. We have all started talking about the color of our hair. Said better, the true color of our hair.

Nearly every conversation with a female friend over the last week or so has involved a tip, trick or point about how to cover those creeping greys. I’ve had sprays, dyes, crayons, powder, and paint recommended – in permanent, semi-permanent and washable forms.

I have to admit I’m intrigued by a Facebook advertisement for a hair color line called Madison Reed (anyone try it?). I might just give in and give that one a try. I haven’t broken it to my husband yet that he might have to double as my colorist. Shhhh, don’t tell him yet until I figure all of this out.

Looking forward to color on the other side of this.

Ah brave to share such a touchy subject.

NY Times covered this and more: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/21/style/self-care/fomo-is-over-not-wearing-a-bra-during-quarantine-coronavirus.html?campaign_id=57&emc=edit_ne_20200421&instance_id=17842&nl=evening-briefing&regi_id=4405288&segment_id=25692&te=1&user_id=2fc566278f241d61c830bead46040397

Hahaha--ME TOO! The gingers seem to fade into a less vibrant shade of something, starting at the frame of the face. I've been stalking that site, daily. I bought a color-depositing shampoo CHI Iconic Color depositing shampoo. It's suppose to add color slowly. If it doesn't work, I'm ordering Madison Reed. The other drawback is that it's not going to have dimension. It'll be a flat color, no highlights. But--I think it just might be better than the grey, feathery look.

Lol. Ordered it. It’s great! Easy and nice results.....Paul decided I should go for the “Cinnamon highlights”. FUN! (Carly, those greys miraculously turn into new highlights!)

Thank you for a great blog, Nancy! Fred has been trying to convince me for years to let my gray grow in. I think of Fred when I see my roots! Madison Reed, here I come!

I thought hair coloring products for home use have been available for years? Just an observation of many old commercials I recall (L'Oreal, Revlon, etc.)

OMG, This has been the topic of conversation for two weeks at our house. See Victoria’s post above.

My daughter posted on facebook that she has now officially added "colorist" to her resume. My actual colorist graciously dropped off a "kit" comprised of my color and the tools to apply, with the promise to walk Jamie through the process. What we didn't
realize was that it needed to be applied within 2 to 3 hours---we couldn't do that and didn't apply until the next morning (a good 15 hours later). Although she did an amazing job the fact that coverage may have been better if applied timely is something everyone should bear in mind. I have heard many salons are offering to deliver client's actual color products to them for self application. That said I haven't figured out how to deal with haircut.

My salon won't deliver. Apparently, the salons can lose their license for doing so. As I learned on Facebook when people were posting the names of salons that were doing it. I've been stalking Madison Reed too. Haven't pulled the trigger yet.

My other issue is my acrylic nails. I had to post on FB to find out how to get rid of those. Ugh!!! First world problems. . . :)

I was due for color at the end of the first week we were asked to stay in. I emailed my wonderful colorist and friend Bert, who by then was at Cape Cod, and he recommended some brands, like L'Oreal, and gave me instructions. He advised selecting the box in Duane Reade that has the color closest to mine on it and to also pick another one with a photo of a lighter color. My husband who would not let me out of the house, could only find Vidal Sassoon for the second box. He hates to get involved with female kinds of things--I was so grateful, He read the instructions with me and helped me apply the color. I was so nervous! Result? Perfection.

I think I need to call my salon for a color mix! That's great!
