Art in the Time of Pandemic

I am sitting in our living room and gaze across at the dining table which now serves as my office desk. (I’ve never spent so much time at the dining room table as I have during the last few weeks.)

I also gaze upon the artwork that surrounds me and some of the studio glass in the room.

There’s the Blue Cloud by the glass artist Nancy Callan. It was one of first pieces in our modest collection and one of my favorites.

I always marvel at the beauty of the work. Nowadays I stare at it and allow the cloud to take me away to friends and family.

Art in the time of pandemic — enjoy it and allow it to transform you.

Inspection and introspection are engendered by our unprecedented situation. Not a bad thing...

In many ways you can get closer to some works and in sharper lighting

I love this, Ben. Appreciation is definitely bubbling up for me. Thank you for sharing your experience and your art.

Yes, we do have to time to reflect and look at our surroundings. I too have made my dining room table my desk and office space. I seem to face a small corner table showcasing our collection of snack chips. I see Cheese curls, pretzels, unsalted for me, Smartfood Popcorn and various others. I chose this view because I too have art that I love, but find I end up staring too long and fall off into another place, that is hard to get out of. So the food in a weird way keeps me focused on my work. (There are 10 ridges on a chip on the Trader Joe's bag of Ridged potato chips, maybe this is not working...)

Noticed yesterday how great our corner bedroom looks with shades drawn and sunlight cascading in

Beautiful. It’s the small things. In our dining room, upstate, which has become my office and zoom background, we have an installation called Minutes by Joanne Klein. As always, Jo-Ann’s work is powerful, grounding and beautiful. It makes me so happy to be able to share it with my students, colleagues and friends.

Ben says it all. We look at things differently if our new "normal".
Beauty in our houses and neighborhoods are more appreciated.

I am planning to do virtual tours of museums if I can turn off the damn TV.
