A Sign of Rebirth

Obviously, we are being bombarded daily with stories concerning the effects of Covid-19. But there is one recent story that made me smile and I couldn’t help but share it here.

There are two giant pandas, Ying Ying and Le Le, who live together at Hong Kong’s Ocean Park Zoo. Giant pandas are on the endangered species list as there are currently only 1,800 left in the wild. The Executive Director of the zoo has recently released a statement stating, that Ying Ying and Le Le arrived at the zoo in 2007 and have not mated since attempts to unite the pair dating back to 2010. That is, until now.

According to the Executive Director, once the zoo was closed down to visitators in January due to the Coronavirus, Ying Ying and Le Le have begun doing what is natural, engaging in the mating process. And while Ocean Park has yet to confirm a pregnancy, they are “hopeful to share pregnancy news to Hong Kongers this year and make further contributions to the conservation of this vulnerable species.”

I love this story because, to me, it is a symbol of rebirth and hope during this global pandemic. Do you expect to hear similar stories of rebirth?

There shall be many many shelter in place babies (and possibly some divorce work for you too)!

Just look around and smell the air. The smog has lifted and the birds chirp loudly. Nature has taken over, even if just temporarily and i love it. Do catch real sunsets now as well, as they are supposed to look.

Nice. Hopeful! (:
Sort of a lovely counterpoint to Tiger King which we just started watching with Dana. Lol.

I love the pics of them on the internet. They look so connected.

Fingers crossed. And, hopefully, potential litigants will have the funds available for the retainer fee. :)

Great story. Makes me wonder if the crowds may cause the low survivor rate of Pandas born in captivity.

Thanks Rona for sharing positive news. Reports of the smog lifting over LA and in other parts of the world, now there's a clear view of the Himalayas, emphasize the positives of a 'world pause'. Let's hope humanity learns some of these lessons, so something good comes out of this pandemic.

Just seeing the trees blossoming when I get to go out for a walk gives me hope that there will be a renewal of the good things in life especially during this time of dwelling so much on the negative. Thank you for that good news, Rona. Perhaps privacy was the missing factor for the Pandas :)
