A week ago on a drive to dine out with friends, but not driving (Folks who know us both: Paul was driving!), I was scribbling a list of road songs and a few songs that fit that motif even if drive, road or highway was not in the title or lyrics.  I already compiled a train song list for my blog that ran last Sunday (check it out if you missed the blog gathered more comments for the week ended yesterday than Friday's blogger!).  So check out Songs for the Road.

Before formalizing the list, the big decisions involved its order, what song to lead off with and what song to conclude with.  Several of the tune could fill the bill for a rousing start.  I opted for my fave tune by Creedence Clearwater Revival and John Fogerty.  I conclude with my fave tune by the Beach Boys (preceded by its live version; I also weighed whether to include a great version featuring Blondie Chaplin on lead from Brian Wilson's fall 2019 tour).

This set included some songs that I recall playing on an old cassette recorder for the drive to the beach in the summer. One tune lasted the entire ride from after the Northern State merge from the LIE to West End Two. Another just fits playing loud during any drive; I picked the version from "Free At Last"  -- can you guess the tune without clicking the preceding link?

As to this blog's title, I wanted to choose one of the song titles.  Another tough decision.  I settled on one (a great Paul Cotton tune from Crazy Eyes) of the two Poco tunes.

Curious what tunes other folk suggest.

Still need to decide whether this list stays personal or open to include suggestions by others.

Whether you share your suggested tunes in the comments, please share how you enjoy the list.  Thinking back to Tuesday's blogger post the week before last, hope it puts some smiles on faces.

Do enjoy!

Interesting. The search function on my song library should’ve brought up The Beatles tune. But if you see my comments to Paul, I see no fit unless I wanted a “soft” or “warm” start to kick off a list. And I just literally thought of a tune that I recalled think of as a lead-off tune while I was finishing off the Train playlist that I forgot to write (type) down. Now I need to consider where it fits. It may require a list order reset. Your post help me catch the omit. Thank you.

Oh, I recall it rather well. Let me say tastefully I knowingly left off a few songs from when I made my notes last Sat. eve; some I enjoy hearing but did not view those tunes a a fit with the others. I do enjoy the work of Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real with Neil Young.

Love the ‘Boys and their friends Mssrs Berry and Torrance. Not sure the old gal fits. See some of my other replies. It may be a question of where for “Fun x3” - it’s a great song to conclude a set which currently ends with 2 doses of my fave BB tune. Might need to recast those two as encores. Anyway something mull over. Thanks for the suggestions.

Interesting. I did not ponder. I love listening to Bruce. It might be more fun to compose a stand alone list of his tunes. If I consider BTR, may also need to consider Promised Land and Rosalita (in same context as existing inclusion of All Right Now and Turn On Your Lovelight).

Thx Steve. Some you suggest made the list. Some you suggest may engender same replies gave Norm and Paul.
Ventura Highway is by America. Not sure how it’ll fit. I will explore how Country Road could fit.
