I'm Confused

Television is getting very confusing. First there was basic television, channels two through thirteen. Then basic cable came along which added several more channels. After that we got premium cable which added about eight hundred more channels (although I still can’t find anything to watch on cable) as well as pay per view movies and events.

Now we have subscription networks. First, I was told we had subscribed to NetFlix. I believe it was because the kids wanted it. Then we got Hulu for me so I could watch the “Handmaid’s Tale.” As Prime members we get Amazon Prime video on which we watch “The Incredible Mrs. Maisel.” And, apparently, as our cable provider is Verizon, we receive DisneyPlus for free for one year. I have been binge watching the Star Wars movies on that.

We just bought a new television for our sunroom and we are strongly considering not getting a cable box for it. My husband feels that, as it is a smart television, we could get all of the subscription services on it without paying for another cable box and we wouldn’t miss basic cable. He has also been considering getting Apple TV. I am very apprehensive to give up the cable box, as the process of watching subscription television seems complicated to me.

How do you watch television?

Happy holidays Gotham!!

To be blunt I find it all very confusing know I’m oversubscribed. Never realized we got Disney through Verizon subscribed for a year and now I find I can’t watch it on my Samsung.

Jerry watches more TV than I do and is reluctant to give up anything. Verizon recently changed their options. I lost HBO and now pay more. :( We have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime as well as Verizon. I also didn't realize we got a year of Disney for free; though I'm not interested in adding yet another streaming service, I may look for it as a new friend mentioned there's a good sci-fi series on it.

After many years of using free tv with a roof antenna, when we moved to LI we had to go cable. I think it is currently a RIp off with ever increasing taxes and surcharges that are really just rate increases. Go subscription if you can.

The kids all have just streaming services with no cable box. They watch stuff on Netflix, Hulu, amazon prime and Disney. There’s more than enough. Even HBO go will work with smart TV

Apparently I now also get Apple TV free for a year as I just got a new Ipad.

The Mandalorian. Pretty good although I am unsure where it's going.

I do agree. Although I refuse to pay for some of the subscription services like CBS All Access. I refuse to pay for premium CBS when I pay for it on cable.

I just put a TV with roku for my basement. I use it without the box and get all the channels
